Creepy Crawly Critters: Arthropods (insects, arachnids and the like) are the most numerous and diverse animals on the planet! This fun program offers a variety of seasonal insects and other arthropods for students to observe, handle, and discuss. Students will learn about camouflage, the food web, decomposition, the nutrient cycle, and the life cycle of insects.
Volcanoes & Dinosaurs: This cool program brings dinosaur skulls, claws, and teeth into the classroom for the students to see, hold, and study. They will become paleontologists for a day and work together to discover what each animal ate (was it a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore), where it lived, and how it defended itself from predators.
Birds of Prey: Raptors (eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and their kin) never cease to fascinate and amaze! These graceful and deadly birds have a stunning array of adaptations that make them highly efficient predators. We’ll study the great diversity of raptor species and dissect owl pellets to scientifically study the barn owl diet.
Radical Reptiles: This exciting program features more of our many snakes, lizards, and Ruby the Russian Tortoise. Students will learn about these amazing animals as well as the many other reptiles that inhabit our world. Of course, students who wish to touch or hold the animals will be allowed to do so. We will wrap up by playing our reptiles of the world quiz game: "So You Think You Know Your Reptiles?"
Other exciting weekly sessions this year will include: Amazing Bats, Astronomy, Predators Large & Small, Ocean Animals, Streams & Rivers, Pond Creatures, Tropical Rainforests, Redwood Forest Life, Desert Critters, Weather, and many more. Each session will offer a different mix of these lessons as noted on the school flyer.
